SEC’s History and Experience

Soil Engineering Construction, Inc. (SEC), is celebrating 50 years as a full service Design-Build Geotechnical Contractor serving all of California

Since founding the company 50 years ago, Bob Mahony, a registered civil engineer, geotechnical engineer, and engineering geologist, has built an organization prepared to tackle a wide assortment of geotechnical and structural challenges. SEC is a diversified geotechnical construction firm specializing in a wide range of seismic and geotechnical stabilization systems, often in areas where site access poses a challenge.

Our approach is to work closely with our clients and other relevant consultants and firms to optimize the constructability and cost effectiveness of each project. The firm operates on the principle that the obvious solution to a problem is not always the most cost efficient or best engineered solution. We can provide a host of specialized geotechnical construction techniques and the specialized equipment for their application. As a company, the owner, supervising engineers, field supervisors, and employees take great pride in utilizing innovative engineering concepts to provide clients with the best product at the best price.

As a vertically integrated design-build firm, SEC offers the benefit of working with a single firm for all phases of a project, knowing all project costs up front, and knowing those project costs are almost always the lowest in the region among quality providers. SEC can work with clients on every phase of a project, from planning and design, to permitting, construction, and finalization.

SEC’s client list includes general contractors, engineers, architects, public agencies/municipalities, homeowner associations, and owners of commercial, industrial, and residential properties.

Since 1971, Soil Engineering Construction, Inc. has engineered and constructed more than 6,000 lineal feet of lower coastal bluff seawalls in California, with an additional 1200+ lineal feet of seawalls currently in the planning/permitting phase. In addition, we have designed and constructed hundreds of projects involving upper bluff retention systems, underpinning of threatened structures, and reconstruction of failed coastal bluffs and slopes.

We believe that our experience in engineering and construction in the State of California is unparalleled. And, in all of the jurisdictions where our firm has been involved in project development, we take great pride in having established strong and respectful working relationships with public agency planning and engineering staff, policy-makers, and our clients. All told, Soil Engineering Construction is a thoroughly experienced design-build construction firm eager to handle a wide array of projects. We look forward to working with you!
